Is there anything that can help you with the fear of the dentist?
Yes, some people are so frightened of the dentist that they will not go for dental treatment. They can overcome their fears with relaxation and sedation. Our dentists are sympathetic about these feelings and you can ask our dentists about ways to help.
What is inhalation sedation?
You can be helped to feel relaxed by ‘happy gas’ known as inhalation sedation. This means breathing in a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen which quickly leads to a pleasant, relaxed feeling. The dentist will put you at ease at the same time, by talking softly and suggesting what you feel.
What are the advantages of nitrous oxide?
You will remain conscious all the time and any treatment given causes less discomfort. You will breathe in the mixture through a nosepiece, which is very comfortable. You cannot overdose on the gas, as the mixture quickly leaves the body with just one or two breaths of ordinary air. There’s no “hangover” effect – the gas is eliminated from the body within 3 to 5 minutes after the gas is stopped. You can safely drive home and don’t need an escort.
